Countless number of Internationals, Africans and Nigerians had a sleepless night watching the self renounced best entertainment award show. Personally, you can't be the best Award show if you announced a category and failed to present it live. Initially, we all thought there was a mistake when the same category for 'best international act' was not announced at the press briefing, but now we know that it was just a dubious attempt to win more viewers.
Well, I call that 'scam' in its highest order. This past Sunday (June 27, 2010), the BET awards went down in Los Angeles California. Two of Nigeria’s finest, P Square and M.I were nominated for the Best International Act and both present at the award show.
First Scam: P-Square were leading the category with 27% as at when voting for the category closed, but this same category was won by Dizzee Rascal (am not saying he is not good enough to win) who was second to the last in the voting poll. HOW?
Second Scam: The winner (Dizzee Rascal) was announced online about half an hour after the show was over. Why if I may ask? Not only that, the official website is fully covered up with no information about the award show but only the nominees of this same category.
I was quite irritated because these artistes traveled a great distance to show up at the awards. Anyway, their scam worked very well and I am so so so disappointed in myself for publicizing this award show to my friends and families as the best award show yet.
A short red carpet interview was done for some of the nominees (at least that was not forgotten -still a scam). I can't just wait for the next International, African and most especially Nigerian Award shows, to see if they will also skip the presentation of categories for International Awards. No beef, just saying...

I have been a strong supporter of STARMIX MANAGEMENT, who brought you the Much loved & Sold-Out P-SQUARE Concert and STARMIX SUMMER FEST for a while now.
This time around, they are presenting 2FACE and MARIO LIVE IN CONCERT with a FULL Live Band. Although 2face is one of the few Nigerian artists I am sure will nerver fail to impress with a live band, I can't still wait to see him do his stuff. I have been a fan of 2face as far back as I the first time I stood on a stage to sing and will always be his fan for as long as he lives.
2FACE will be taken to the stage in London, alongside America’s sensation MARIO. Both selling hit albums across the globe and attaining numerous awards, they will be bringing you the best of both worlds, in a never seen before concert collaboration which I am personally looking forward to. In company of a Full Live Band, it will no doubt be an exclusive experience not to be missed!

Jeta Amata Is Back with INALE: Theatrical Trailer

He was only 21 when he made his first feature film and 12 years later, he single-handedly restored Nigeria's name on the world map of cine-making countries with the lovely film -Amazing Grace.
To most Nollywood practitioners and particularly the media, Jeta Amata's wave making film, Amazing Grace was produced with ease, although he was recalled saying - "I LOST MY LAGOS HOME TO AMAZING GRACE".
Jeta is a chip off the old block. His late grandfather, John Amata, was a veteran actor. John acted in Freedom, the largest motion picture during the colonial era, with a cast of five thousand. It was said to have been the first feature film in the country. John's son, the prodigious theatre veteran, Zack Amata, is Jeta's father. Renowned for his role as the no-nonsense Mr. Okonzua, and father of Nosa, in the now rested NTA's Behind the Clouds; a soap opera, that gripped the consciousness of Nigerians many years back.
Zack had long time ago at the University of Ibadan made history by being his father's classmate in the Theatre Arts Department. He later taught his sibling, Fred and son, Jeta at the Benue State University, Makurdi.
Now, Jeta is back with a new and stunning movie called INALE! Its preview alone raises expectations.

Algeria player slaps female reporter - World Cup 2010

The match against the United States and Algeria was great World Cup soccer, a tension-filled affair that eventually went the way of the USA.
On the line for both countries was a trip to the next round, so it's understandable that the losing Algeria squad be disappointed with the trip home. But slapping a female reporter to take out your aggression?
According to a report at Yahoo! Sports, that's exactly what Algerian player Rafik Saifi did during post-game interviews. Asma Salifi, a female reporter for the Algerian newspaper Competition, says she was standing in the interview area when Saifi walked by and, apparently unprovoked, reached out and hit her.
"I said nothing to him and he reached over and hit me," Halimi said to Yahoo! Sports. "So I hit him back. I said nothing to him first."
The incident, which reportedly happened in front of dozens of media witnesses, concluded when Salifi smacked the player in the mouth, at which point he hurled a sports drink bottle against the wall and left.
The Algerian team offered no official response to the attack.
When asked if she would launch an official complaint with governing body FIFA and the Algerian FA. Halimi replied: “Of course.”

Just few days ago, i was talking about the unofficial fans of jesse jags. Well, is time to stop talking and starting listening to this lyricist and his Choc City boiz.
“Choc BOIz is not about iceprince ,jesse Jagz and M.I alone..the Choc brand celebrates chocolate- the essence and colour of Africa-, boldness- the daring spirit to explore and break new grounds, Originality- being yourself, being creatively real with what you say, do or stand for and Innovativeness…the need to improve on what has been achieved…” - Choc Boiz.Surely no one can test the Choc Boiz right now, Jesse Jagz gets Clarence Peters to direct the brand new video for “Nobody Test Me” – the latest single off his album Jagz of All Trades. Word is that it was recorded as a response to Kelly Hansome and other “up and coming” artistes “coming up quick” who may have taken shots at the Choc Boiz.
Only one Kelly that I know…. Kelly Rowland! SICK!!!

A Little peep Into Nollywood

Lets take another brief look at this industry (Nollywood) that have exploded in the last ten years. Now the most popular cinema in all of West Africa - more popular even than imports of Hollywood or Bollywood films - the Nigerian film industry has distinguished itself by shooting all films (called video-films) on digital video.
This has allowed production schedules to be compressed (films are shot in several days) and immediately brought to market (distribution consists of bringing films to Idumota electronics market in Lagos and selling them for home-viewing). The sheer volume of Nigerian video-films is staggering: one estimate has a film being produced for each day of the year.
Nollywood is now the third largest film industry in the world, generating 286 million dollars per year for the Nigerian economy. Yet the industry is dragging in production and technical know-how when compared to its market share competitors.
Enjoy the video below by indiepixfilms.com, with a funny ending.

Freemium is a business model that works by offering creative products (music, movies, softwares and so on) for free, while charging a premium for advanced or special features (like advertising, subscription, etc.). We have all noticed this "freemium" business on the web. The business model essentially works by offering the basic services for free, once the user becomes loyal they may advance to the premium services available. Web sites such Linkedin, Skype, Flickr and more recently Spotify all use this model.
Some say you should not spend money on marketing, offer flexibility and data exporting to eliminate buyers’ regret, make sure to capitalize on and value goodwill, and only charge for things that are hard to do. The word ‘Free’ is still the most powerful word in marketing... Read more

BEIJING — Jackie Chan says his serious role in "The Karate Kid" was a pleasant break from his usual action-comedy parts. Chan's turn as the stern Mr. Han, the Mr. Miyagi character in the remake of the '80s hit, has won praise from reviewers, including The Associated Press.
Jaden Smith who also got his big-screen start alongside his dad in the 2006 drama "The Pursuit of Happyness" and co-starred in the science-fiction remake "The Day the Earth Stood Still." He said he wants to make acting a lifelong career and take a page from his father's book with more action roles.
Smith said his father, whose action flicks include "Hancock," "I Am Legend," "Independence Day" and the "Men in Black" and "Bad Boys" movies, was a fan of the original "Karate Kid" and thought Jaden, who already had studied karate, would be the right guy for the role.
"My dad had the idea of remaking it," Jaden Smith said. "He's the one who was like, 'We need to make this movie.'"
‘Kung Fu Kid’ a better title?
Will and Jada Pinkett Smith were producers on "The Karate Kid," along with Jerry Weintraub, who produced the original and its sequels.
"It's very scary when you go back and fiddle around with a classic," Will Smith told the ShoWest audience before the screening. Weintraub said he "questioned it 150,000 times" but was glad Smith talked him into doing the
He told reporters in Beijing on Wednesday that such parts are rarely offered to him in the U.S., where audiences are more used to seeing him in jokey, lighthearted roles in films such as the "Rush Hour" series.
"I'm very happy to take on a different role. It's not just a comedy, but a serious role," Chan said.

Referee should have disallowed the goal against Nigeria - FIFA

As Nigeria prepares for its next match today, world body slams referee over Argentine goal in their last match. The FIFA’s referee’s committee criticised Wolfgang Stark’s decision not to give a foul for Walter Samuel’s obstruction in the build-up to the goal.
The Spanish newspaper, Ole, reports that a FIFA post-match analysis ruled that there was a foul in the build-up to Gabriel Heinze’s 6th minute match-winning header, and that Stark should never have allowed the goal.
The FIFA referees’ committee released their findings on Tuesday, as a guide for future judgments in this year’s tournament. And amongst other rulings, they made it clear to referees that they must watch for infractions at corners and free-kicks - specifically attacking players blocking markers, as was the case last Saturday.
As Juan Sebastian Veron’s cross floated over Argentine player, Walter Samuel grabbed Nigeria’s Chinedu Obasi and prevented him from moving, thereby giving Heinze all the space he needed to head the ball into the back of the Nigerian net.
Stark should have, therefore, penalised Samuel for obstruction and awarded a free-kick to the Super Eagles - a judgment that could have changed the course of the whole game for the Argentines, who missed several gilt-edged chances owing to the brilliant form of Nigerian goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama.
Although the ruling comes too late for the Super Eagles, it has interesting implications for the rest of the tournament; a sign that FIFA will not tolerate the pushing, shoving, and holding commonplace on both sides at dead-ball situations, and that in future, such offences will be punished with either disallowed goals or penalties, in the case of the defence committing an infraction.

Lady Gaga premieres raunchy Alejandro music video

Lady Gaga is no stranger to controversy and she's sure to cause even more with the release of her brand new video Alejandro.
In the provocative music promo, the 24-year-old singer dresses up in a priest's white robe with a red cross placed strategically over her crotch as a group of half-naked men lift her up. She also dons a red PVC nun's uniform and swallows a crucifix in the epic eight-minute video.
The video opens with Gaga surrounded by a group of topless dancers who prance around a wintery wasteland. Dressed in outlandish goggles, the diva leads a funeral procession carrying a human heart with the letter A on it.
Gaga is then seen dressed in a nude-coloured bra, knickers and stockings as she grapples with a man on bed and simulates having sex with him. The video also features the Poker Face star wearing a machine gun-shaped black bra while her dancers gyrate around her in military uniforms.
She explained recently that the video - directed by fashion snapper Steven Klein - had a "homoerotic military theme". She told US TV host Larry King: "It is a celebration of my love and appreciation for the gay community, my admiration of their bravery, their love for one another and their courage in their relationships."
Gaga's video is sure to invite even more comparisons to Madonna, who has frequently collaborated with photographer Klein including on the book Sex. Alejandro has already been compared to Madge's black-and-white video for Vogue while Madonna famously courted controversy by cavorting with a black Jesus in the video for Like A Prayer in 1987.

Chris Brown Bounced from the UK

Chris Brown is having a bad month, a feeling he's probably grown accustomed to in recent history - yahoo reported. Last week, he was reportedly refused entry to a listening party for hot new rapper Drake in New York City and then followed it up by being turned away from a celebrity nightclub because his entourage was too big.
Now he's completed a hat-trick - but this latest rejection has seen him banned from an entire country. Brown was due to play dates across Europe this month on the latest leg of his ‘Fan Appreciation' tour but his application for a work visa has been turned down by the UK, prompting the cancellation of the entire jaunt.
The decision is said to be linked to the shamed US R&B star's conviction of assault following his February 2009 attack on Rihanna. "SORRY to all the fans in Europe! My tour is cancelled. I'm pretty sure y'all know. My entry was denied in your country. I love you. SORRY!!" Brown wrote on Twitter.
Is the British government right to ban Chris Brown? Is this what he deserves after attacking Rihanna? Or should we give him a second chance?

All students know how difficult it can be to juggle coursework with other commitments, but few have to write their dissertation whilst preparing to release the follow up to their multi-million selling first album, flying all over the world for festivals and promotional events and doing charity work to help some of the world’s poorest children.
But that’s exactly the pressures on his time that University of Dundee student Naetochukwu Chikwe faces. The Nigerian, who is currently completing his Masters in Energy Studies, also happens to be Africa’s hottest young hip-hop star.
Naeto plans for his dissertation to deal with energy economics in Nigeria. He says it was important to him to carry out research about his homeland because he wants his work to contribute to the development of the country and its people. He adds that he has enjoyed his time in Dundee and, despite the difficulties of balancing his music and studies, he has thrived on the academic challenge.
